Lighting Up the Night!

Uncle Milton Toys
Uncle Milton sent us some more Explorer Academy toys to check out. They're perfect for the occasional nightime adventures!
Uncle Milton and National Geographic's Explorer Academy line of toys for outdoor play took us outside - and in the dark on some warm August nights recently. The kids were anxious to try the Expedition Sky Flare (photo above). And it waspretty awesome! My youngest (6) has trouble getting it to operate like it should, but the minimum age suggestion for the toy is 8+. Some upper body strength is best to shoot this puppy high into the sky and watch it come twirling down (reminded me of my daughter's Sky Dancer toy from a few years ago). The box says it can go up to 50 feet, and I think my husband nearly got it that far. The idea is to signal - like a flare - to fellow explorers of your location. Our neighbors definitely noticed our beacon. And they wanted to give it a try!
With the High Sierra Eco Explorer Multi-Use Tool, you get a headlamp, searchlight, light-up viewer, magnifier, and soil sifter all in one! This is the ideal backyard exploration toy. There is a tool to help you dig (for bugs!), then you collect using the tweezers, and examine your finds in an illuminated viewer.  This is perfect for my two munchkins who are always digging and finding all sorts of creepy crawlies. Now they have the perfect tools to help!
Expedition Shoe Lights look incredibly cool and add another element to Uncle Milton's take on exploration in the dark or near-dark. So clever!
Each of these products come with an Explorer Activity Guide with suggestions for ways to use the tool and games you can play. Your kids are sure to be inspired to get outdoors and conjure up their own expeditions.

Uncle Milton has also created a National Geographic Explorer’s Academy website at www.natgeoacademy.com which includes ideas for outdoor explorations, educational materials from National Geographic, and more information on the Outdoor Explorer line of toys. You can also find these toys at Amazon.com, Toys ‘R Us and many other retailers.
