The Poulsbo Parks and Recreation Department not only provides a variety of recreation programs for the citizenry, but continues to build community relationships with a variety of agencies, businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals. The department main responsibilities include: (1) providing citizens with a variety of enjoyable leisure opportunities, which are accessible, safe, well organized, physically attractive and well maintained. Programs and camps for youth can range from sports to sailing to arts & crafts, gymnastics, piano, cooking, dance, nature programs, and more. Adults programs may include dance, music, arts & crafts, fitness, investment, gardening, foreign language, and more. (2) Maintaining the Poulsbo Park and Recreation Center building by hosting recreation programs, meetings and being an information and referral center for the community. (3) The center is home to the Learn and Grow Preschool. This preschool offers five classes for ages 2-5 in a safe, fun and active atmosphere. The preschool runs on a "school year" schedule, and registration begins in the spring prior to the new school year and continues into the fall. (4) Offering elementary and middle school classes immediately after school at a variety of NK Schools. This includes art classes, karate, nature programs, sports, and more. (5) Hosting a variety of special events in the community including the Hip Hop Basketball tournament and Daddy-Daughter Dance in February, the Easter Candy Hunt in April, the Viking Fest Road Race and Kids Fair in May, National Trails Day and Volunteer Appreciation Picnic in June; the summer concert series during July and August, Poulsbo Park Days in September, and Spooktacular in October.
