It’s not always easy to please children, but sometimes you get lucky. ‘The Great Farm Egg Hunt’ at Pheasant Fields Farm is one of those times. Farm owner and operator, Nikki Johanson knows what it takes to capture the attention and imagination of a child. She’s been organizing family friendly events on her family farm for over 20 years. This spring, the farm welcomes back the classic ‘egg hunt’ event for children up to 12 years old. This well thought out event is organized with different egg hunt areas for various age groups and includes pictures with the ’Easter Bunny’, face painting, creative art area, seed planting, storytelling and a self-guided tour of the farm. Food concession will also be available.

Nikki’s parents, George and Margaret Juricich purchased the Pheasant Fields Farm property in 1949 and continued to operate the egg farm which was first established in 1905 by the Conrad Petersen family. Today, the farm is diversified operation for vegetable production, plant starts for the home gardener, flowers and herbs, and for October, a corn maze, a tradition that began in 2000. The farm has included farm events know as ‘agritourism’, realizing that the community is hungry to experience farm life. Pheasant Fields is home to a llama, 3 comical little goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, geese and a very fluffy farm dog named Sailor.

Every year Pheasant Fields Farm donates plant starts and fresh vegetables to area foodbanks. By involving local neighbors and using property that would otherwise be a huge lawn area, Nikki has successfully found additional farming space to grow a variety of nutritious vegetables for the NK Foodbank. “It just gets a little bigger every year with the help of volunteers”, Nikki said. “I’m real proud of that. Our local food banks play a large role in helping community members in many ways besides distributing food during this pandemic era.”
