Several local reading programs offer incentives (like free books, t-shirts, and pizza) for reading during the summer!

Kitsap Regional Library - Summer Learning

June 1 - August 31, Kitsap Regional Library invites all ages (adults, too!) to read more and learn more. Connect with KRL in person, online or on the go through the Beanstack app. Take on the Summer Learning Challenges, enjoy classes, events and live performances and explore everything the Library has to offer!

Tracyton Community Library - Wild About Reading!

Read and record 10 books and choose a free book to keep! Kids can sign up and read books at the Tracyton Community Library -- stop by or call. 

A kick off party is June 23!

BookIt Nook - Bingo and Bookmark Design Contest

Summer Reading Bingo

From July 1 – August 28, 2022, play the BookIt Nook Summer Reading Bingo and complete 5 squares in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) to be entered to win a $20 gift certificate from BookIt Nook. If you complete all 25 squares, you will be entered into a grand prize drawing! Your completed Summer Reading Bingo form (PDF) must be received no later than 5pm on Sunday, August 28, 2022.

Bookmark Design Contest

Have you ever wished to share your love for reading in a creative way with the community? Now is your chance! Bookit Nook is about to print two children's bookmarks, which will both be handed out for free to visitors to the store. The bookmark design theme is: Snakes and Books
The Rules:
  • The contest is open to anyone entering grades K-12 in Fall 2021.
  • Entries must be completed using the official entry form (PDF).
  • One entry per person. Artwork must relate to the theme, though interpretation of the theme is up to the artist – be creative!
  • You may use pencils, colored pencils, crayons, paint, or markers.
  • All art must be original. (No DC/Marvel, Disney, Harry Potter, Pokemon, etc.)
  • Designs must be turned in to BookIt Nook no later than 5pm on August 28, 2022.
Two winning designs will be selected - and the artists will be notified. One winner will be selected from the K-5 grade levels, and a second winner will be selected from the 6-12 grade levels. 

Bedtime Books at Bethany - A READ Up Program

Bethany Lutheran Church, 151 Tremont St., Port Orchard  

Kids ages birth to 8 and their adult are invited to Bedtime Books at Bethany every Wednesday from July 6- Aug. 10 at 7pm. Put on your jammies and stop by for a 20 minute read aloud. Families are welcome to stay in their cars, or bring chairs or blankets to sit on.Pick a free book to take home each week! 

Open to everyone in the community. The dates will be included in the Macaroni KID Kitsap calendar!

Barnes & Noble - Summer Reading Program

10315 Silverdale Way NW, Kitsap Mall

Kids in grades 1-6 can read books of their choice this summer, and as they do they can fill out a Summer Reading Journal in English or Spanish. Return the completed journal to any Barnes & Noble store for a free, brand new book from B&N's designated summer reading list between July 1 and Aug. 31, 2022.

Pizza Hut - Camp BOOK IT!

Camp BOOK IT! to all families from June-August for kids ages 4-12. Parents can track and reward their kids' reading for June, July and August in the digital dashboard. When they meet their monthly reading goal, they'll receive a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza® from Pizza Hut! They'll also share fun activities and book recommendations each week to keep the fun going throughout the summer!

Little Free Library
A unique, free book exchange for all ages, Little Free Library can be found at numerous locations throughout Kitsap County and beyond. Find your nearest location - or start one of your own! A fun summer project, perhaps?
