Manchester State ParkTucked away in the small community of Manchester in South Kitsap, Manchester State Park is a South Kitsap destination all its own. The 111-acre park has hiking trails, historic buildings and more than 3,000 feet of saltwater shoreline to explore. | ![]() |
The park itself is rich with history, constructed at the turn of the century as a U.S. Coast Artillery harbor defense installation. During World War II, the property was converted to a navy fuel supply depot and a Navy fire-fighting station. A former torpedo warehouse, a gun battery and mining casement still stand in the park and are on the register of National Historic Monuments.
Manchester State Park is shaded with beautiful and towering trees and great for families with littles who want to explore on foot. The 2.2-mile loop trail is popular for birding, hiking and running. The terrain is a mix of gravel and dirt, with 177-foot elevation gain.
The park sets on the shore of Rich Passage, making for great ferry views and a peaceful shoreline. Be sure to bring water shoes or towels to clean-up. My toddler loved beach combing, climbing over driftwood, and stepping over slimy seaweed.
There is a bathroom near the camping and picnic areas. The park does require a Discovery Pass, which you can purchase upon arrival. Or, go on a State Park FREE day and pay nothing!
