This summer, Kitsap Regional Library invites you to grow your way during the Library’s free annual summertime program, Summer Learning, celebrating the joy of learning through fun, educational activities. During Summer Learning, kids, teens, adults and families can enjoy live events, challenges and more.
This long-held tradition is a vital part of summer, especially for Kitsap kids. Reading, goal setting, experimenting and exploring help kids avoid learning loss that can be common during summer break, better preparing them for success in the coming school year. By encouraging curiosity through interest-based activities, local events and prize incentives, the Library hopes to instill a love of learning that will grow to be lifelong.
June 1-Aug. 31, kids, teens and adults can earn awesome prizes for taking on the “Dig Into Reading: 10-100 Hour Reading Challenge,” including a free book or journal of your choice at the 10-hour mark and a drawstring bag earned at 50 hours. By reading 100 hours, you can earn your own “Dig Into Reading” 100-Hour Reader T-shirt, while supplies last.
Grab a print guide at your closest library to record your progress on interactive pages, or visit KRL.org/summer and download the Beanstack app, a mobile app that allows you to track your reading and challenge progress, to earn fun digital badges and printable rewards. Pick up your “Read More Challenge” prizes at any Library location all summer long.
You can also try the self-guided “Dig Into Learning Challenge” and pursue a learning goal of your choice. By brainstorming ideas, selecting a goal, planning for success and sharing your experience with the Library, you earn an entry into the end-of-summer prize drawings.
Back again this year, there is also a “Bonus Bingo Challenge,” a classic game with a library-inspired twist. To complete a bingo, you might visit a new park or plant a seed! Drop in at any Kitsap Regional Library location with your finished Bingo card for a second entry into the end-of-summer prize drawings. Winners of the end-of-summer prize drawings will be contacted by September 15.
This year, participants of the “Dig Into Learning Challenge” and “Bonus Bingo Challenge” can win:
• A $150 gift certificate to your favorite local bookstore, or
• A $150 gift certificate to Kitsap Fresh or your favorite farmers' market, or
• A Nintendo Switch Lite and a $70 download card or new game.
The Summer Learning fun doesn’t stop here. Events will also be in the Macaroni KID Kitsap free community event calendar.
