Description
Drawing upon Swedish traditions, Midsommar features the raising of the maistang (midsummer pole), bedecked with greens and flowers to symbolize spring, life, and beauty. This festive occasion includes music, dancing, and flower crown-making, embodying Scandinavian culture and the joy of summer solstice. Swedish Midsommar celebrations are rich with tradition: decorating homes with greenery, wearing flower crowns, dancing, singing, and feasting late into the bright northern evening. Poulsbo’s celebration mirrors these traditions, bringing the charm of small Scandinavian villages to the Pacific Northwest.
